52WoA: Week 27 – Portrait of a Stranger vs. Portrait of a Friend

As a photographer, sometimes you need to work on things outside of your normal day-to-day life and this project is going to help us (and you) challenge, grow and creatively develop your photography as a whole. Weekly for the next year, we will be creating images and we call it 52 Weeks of Awesomeness (52WoA)!

Here are our Week 27 – “Portrait of a Stranger vs. Portrait of a Friend” images!

CHRIS: Local barista vs. my wife.

SARAH: Top image- Autumn. She is an incredible photographer, terrific test light model, but above all a loyal friend who always has a witty comment to brighten your day.

Bottom image- Larry. He was discussing plans for construction with his colleague, Lee, when I passed him on the sidewalk. He reminded me of my grandpa and seemed like an approachable guy so I quickly introduced myself and explained the 52 weeks of awesomeness challenge. I’ll admit that I was bit nervous to randomly walk up to a stranger and ask to take their photo, but Larry’s infectious smile and friendly demeanor made things easy. This photo was taken right after Larry’s colleague reminded me to “get his good side.”

AUTUMN: we always have our phones around these days. it makes it easy to take creepy pictures of strangers, and to have on hand for pictures of friends who like you enough to let you take their picture after carrying 20 heavy boxes up from the basement….
