52WoA: Week 12 – Smoke vs Fire (Two Images)

As a photographer, sometimes you need to work on things outside of your normal day-to-day life and this project is going to help us (and you) challenge, grow and creatively develop your photography as a whole. Weekly for the next year, we will be creating images and we call it 52 Weeks of Awesomeness (52WoA)!

Here are our Week 12 – “SMOKE VS FIRE” images!

CHRIS: For my smoke image, I lit candles behind and in front of the camera, set up a flash directly behind the camera, blew out the candles, used a flashlight to lit the camera so my own camera could focus, removed the flashlight and then took the photo. I did that plus or minus 15 times to create this image. For my fire image, I made a tepee out of matches, focused one camera on the tepee, then lit the tepee and used a macro lens to shoot through a viewfinder of the camera that was focused on the tepee.

SARAH: This week’s challenge resulted in me lighting several things on fire and smoking myself out of my kitchen. None of those images turned out all that great so then I shot a candle. Groundbreaking concept, I know…
