The R Family’s Joy Session that I photographed in Manhattan, KS is shared on the La Brisa blog! Let’s be honest, you definitely recognize this family. The R Family has supported me since they were just a family of three humans and big Jack (March 2008)!
My photography and their family have come a long way in the past 7 years! Thankfully, due to our continued relationship, they trust me when I encourage them to go through with their session even when the weather is less than ideal. What ended up happening is one of my favorite Joy Session images ever (top of the page). I love how the kids are being kids. Active, silly and playful. And by awesome mistake, mom and dad are perfectly framed overseeing their children from the background. The frozen strands of water, the colorful outfits and the joyous expressions on their faces add so much depth to the image. This family makes me laugh uncontrollably. I have so much respect for mom and dad for raising such a boisterous and happy family. Plus, they recently added a puppy, Daisy, to keep their life even more interesting!
When we met up recently in Manhattan, KS for their latest shoot, we started at Top of the World Park. It has always been one of my favorite locations in the area and I hadn’t photographed the R Family there in quite some time. Plus, I really wanted to utilize the beautifully soft overcast sky with the rustic dirt road. Daisy did well under the circumstances of being completely overstimulated. The R Family handles everything with aplomb. With four kids 8 years old or younger, a little bit of rain won’t stop them and I loved the photos of the kids being themselves! After getting a little wet, we headed over to the parking lot of the Hilton Garden Inn because I thought the covered structure would be a drier place to shoot; instead, the location turned out be to even wetter because the R children love playing in the rain!
Thank you again for trusting me every year with your family portraits. More so, I greatly appreciate your willingness to appease my ridiculous photography whims! See you again next year!
